I was recently on the road in Tulsa, OK working the territory.  I was scheduled to stay Monday thru Thursday.  I am the type of rep who meticulously plans my day so I don’t waste time driving back and forth all over town so I was excited about the trip I had planned and the people I would soon meet.

Monday went by without a hitch,  I worked my way up to Tulsa and made some good contacts on the way.  Tuesday was even better.  Tuesday was one of those euphoric days when you feel like you’re in the groove and nothing seems to be going against you, but then, Wednesday hit.

I woke up at 3am Wednesday morning with a fever I couldn’t shake. At 7,  I did my best to wrestle out of bed, put on my slacks and get down to the car, but I decided it wasn’t a good idea when I was having trouble figuring out how to get the car into reverse…. I was dog sick.  The remainder of Wednesday, I spend under a comforter with the heater blazing at 80 degrees. Nothing I did seemed help my plight.

I spend a lot of time on the road, and have long feared waking up one day and being too sick to work.  I can work through a minor illness, but when the big one hits me, I’m rendered useless.  I wasted an entire day shivering in a hotel room… all of my appointments lost and so many people I didn’t get to meet.

This was by far my worst experience on the road yet. I’m sorry I let you down Tulsa… don’t worry though.. I’ll be back in 3 weeks.
